This incredible scripture was first opened to me in Colombia, South America. I was feeling lonely for my Norma when I suddenly awakened to the fact that God, too, can know a certain kind of loneliness – where He also yearns for those He loves. I sensed Him saying to me, “I am so personal that it is as if I only had you to care for. I’m noticing you 24 hours a day, yet you spend so little time noticing Me or talking to Me. I am lonely for your love, Frank.” I have never been the same!
Think of it! God Himself is seeking worshippers. That is nothing less than a holy God looking for those who will love Him with heart, soul, mind and strength. God is love and so He is self-sustaining. He doesn’t need our love to exist or survive – yet He wants your love because:
- He is a Person, not an “It”, thereby enjoying the loving affection, appreciation and adoration of His children and
- He knows that it is only as we love Him in total worship that we understand the “exceeding abundantly above all” (Ephesians 3:20) reality and purpose of God in our lives.
Our Father of love is seeking lovers – you and me. But since He is Spirit, we must learn to worship Him with our spirit – and this requires discipline. Soulish worship is dependent upon circumstances and feelings, but true spiritual worship is built on a love relationship that is not dependent upon the exterior. The Shepherd has sought you out as His sheep. Now our loving Father seeks you out as a worshipper – a true lover of God. Will you answer the longing of His heart – beginning now?
