“For God who said, Let light shine out of darkness, has shone in our hearts so as to beam forth the Light for illumination of the knowledge of the majesty and glory of God (as it is manifested in the Person and is revealed) in the face of Jesus Christ the Messiah.”  2 Corinthians 4:6 Amplified Bible

As I pen these words, the USA has just had the first cross-country solar eclipse in 99 years (August 21, 2017). Millions who saw 100% of this heavenly wonder stood in awe even as they were plunged into darkness. Of course, the darkness was not total, and was short-lived as the moon moved on and the sun smiled in approval.

I waited in vain for a newscaster, educator or scientist to offer a word of credit to the Creator of the universe and of the laws that govern it. Not even a peep. So I poured out my worship to God even as I’m sure other simple folk were doing at the same time.

I often wonder what it was like when God looked into that cosmic darkness “In the beginning…” and spoke those eternal words “Let there be light.” Were angels there to worship and applaud in awe the great I AM? Yes, I can only wonder.

But I do know the answer to another time the Light of the world, Jesus, called out to the pitch darkness of a human heart buried deep in sin and commanded “Let there be light!” That heart was mine—and that heart is yours if you have put your trust and hope in Him.

May the following words cause your own heart to love Him and your mouth to praise Him right along with me.

In the beginning God created,

The heaven and the earth;

And one day God created my life,

But I spoiled its worth;

The earth was without form and void,

And so was my life without Him;

And darkness was on the face of the deep,

And the night in my soul was from sin:

But upon the face of the waters, God moved,

And then moved upon my heart;

When the Voice in the night ordered,

“Let there be light! Let there be Light!”

All His glory burst forth to impart;

And that’s what took place in my heart.

Yes, that’s what took place in my heart.

The god of this world had blinded my mind,

And I thought life was fun and good times;

The god of this world had blinded my mind,

Lest the light of the gospel should shine:

But God Who commanded the light to shine,

Out of darkness, has shined in my heart:

To give the light of the glory of God,

In the face of Jesus the Christ;

To give the light of the glory of God,

In the face of Jesus the Christ.

Hallelujah, Hallelujah, In the beginning, God!

Hallelujah, Hallelujah, In the end, He is mine!
